Letter from the Manager of The Centre August 2010
The Uncle Bobs Club has been providing funding for the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program (P-CMGP) that has been offered by the centre. Over the last three years we have been conducting an evaluation of the program with Australian Catholic University helping us to collect data. The data has now been finalised and a paper has been presented at the National Early Childhood conference in Canberra in May 2010. In light of this I feel it is important to share this information with the club who have been sponsoring us financially.
This was a comparative study we collected data from the children in the P-CMGP before they started the program and at the end of the program. We also collected data from some local playgroups in the area to compare our results. The children that participated in the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program over a fifteen week period showed a significant benefit in the development of their language skills as compared to the children who participated in their local community play group. The parents of the children participating in the P-CMGP felt that their children had become less demanding and that they as parents had developed skills in managing some of their behaviours through the use of song and rhymes. Parents were less stressed as compared to the community group.
Overall these results were very positive and will help us to justify why we will continue to provide this program in the community. On behalf of all the families that have benefited we thank the Uncle Bobs Club for their continued generosity in supporting this program.
