TEAM BUNYIPS BACK

On Good Friday you may have seen a spot on the Good Friday Telecast where there was a group of people in safety green shirts with at Team Bunyip logo on the back. Well if you have never met me, I was the ‘big Col’ one there doing all the talking. It was my honour to lead the team once again this year. It was great to see the young members of our Club on television, showing that the Uncle Bobs Club is for young and old and also it showed how the club is a big part of the appeal.

This year team bunyip was its best yet. We had new members as well as some old. But this year we were at our largest team ever. There were 16 young people working in the team with me this year. I am glad that the young people in their Club want to come and do their bit.

Throughout the day the team collected around the Stadium and at Southern Cross Station as well as their normal duties of money movement and the assembly and disassembly of the UBC counting room. There is also the most important duty of the protection of Bob Bunyip when he goes out at the stadium to greet his league of fans. I have attached a few photos of the team on the day.

As always the team did the Club proud. The team carried out the role in a speedy, professional and efficient way. There was some time for fun but when the work needed to be done, they were there. That is what Team Bunyip is about.  I am always saying that Team Bunyip is a way for the young members to get to know how the Club works and do their bit. It is good to see former members of the team now as Corner Captains and on Committees in the Club.

If this Club is to move forward and survive then these young people are our hope of that. So through team Bunyip we encourage this. I hope in a small way it will be a training ground for the leaders of the Club in the future.

To all the members of the team this year a big thank you. I know on the day I thanked you myself, but I would like to thank you now on behalf of the Uncle Bobs Club and hope to see you all next year.

To the rest of the Uncle Bobs, one and all: This year, I was asked to take on the role of acting convener of the Uncle Bobs Good Friday Committee. Even though I had some recent sadness in my family, when John Trail asked me to help the Club out and fill the position, I said yes. Like all Uncle Bob’s we do it for the kids. So on behalf of the Good Friday Sub Committee I would like to thank you all for you efforts on the day and well done. It was such a fantastic result for the Club, so Thank you for your efforts throughout the year and you should hold your heads high. So once again Bravo and Thank you.

On a personal note I would like to welcome a new member to the Club. He came on Good Friday to help on Team Bunyip. He was up at 5am with me and was still with me when I got home in the early hours of the next Morning. He filled out the membership form without me asking and proudly paid his subs. So welcome to you Luke Wedd –Elliot, I hope you come back again next year to give the team a hand and to keep your old uncle awake all day.
