South Gippsland Group

The South Gippsland Group has held its most successful Good Friday fundraising, finishing with a massive $24,000.00, this exceeded last years total by $6,000.00. When a figure like this is raised it doesn't just happen; a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes. The effort that everybody puts in shows in the grand total that we raise.

We have been busy, with two of our members collecting weekly cardboard, thanks to Tibby & Billie for their constant running around in the van doing collections. A portion of this money goes to the Hospital Appeal and adds up to a fair total by the end of a year.

Our Good Friday fundraising started with our annual Easter Egg raffle with Bill and his helpers manning the streets and local supermarket to sell tickets. And of course catch up with people that they haven't seen for a while to convince them that they may be the next passing potential raffle winner. After selling a record amount of tickets (I don't know how many we had to scrunch for the draw to take place) the winners were Tom Harley and Kevin Dixon. A great effort from the ticket sellers!

Our Good Friday fundraising would never be complete without our annual Goods & Services Auction held at the Austral Hotel the Friday prior to Good Friday. We must give thanks to Doug and his staff at the Austral for the use of the premises and also the wonderful patrons for their support every year. A big thankyou to the traders of Korumburra for without your donation of goods we would have nothing to auction. A big thankyou must also go to our auctioneers, Greg, Eddie & Stuart who donate their time every year for the couple of hours of constant bidding from patrons. Well done to our members for the effort of collecting the goods and assembling at the hotel Friday afternoon to collate the goods in auction lots, and then record all the buyers and collect monies from patrons. Once again a record amount was raised by the auction which helped to raise our overall total.

On Good Friday we had our collection office running from the Sentinel Times newspaper, thank you Michael for the use of the premises. This year we welcomed the local football and netball players to our doorknock and they covered a lot of the town in just a few short hours with some very healthy totals in their tins. Thanks must go to Donald and Dean for organising the players for the collection; it certainly made covering the town a lot easier. Every year we have the same people (too many to mention individually) show up to do a few hours on their regular streets and this year they raised a tremendous amount of money with people expecting their call and having their donation waiting for them, your help every year is greatly appreciated.

We also had our regular contributions from the Golf Club and the Bowling Club, which help boost our total at the end of the day. Thankyou to the organisers of both these events, these are becoming more popular every year and a great way of raising even more money for the Appeal.

Our last thankyou must go to our hard working committee who seem to find hours to put in from their busy lives and make our fundraising such a success.
