Welcome back to all Branches, Groups and members of Uncle Bobs Club, along with State Committee and the ladies at Head Office.  Hope you all had a nice restful break and a good Christmas.  To everyone may 2011 will be a good year for you.

Christmas Raffle

The Christmas raffle was our last fundraising event for the 2010 year. Again we had 10 raffle wonderful prizes. I would warmly like to thank all of the committee members in the following areas. To Ed Rohan and Win Kneebone for kindly offering to pick up and collect the money at the start and end of the each day. To all who sold raffle tickets for the three weeks at each venue. For the kind donation of raffle prizes and the collection of other prizes from the shops etc. To top off all this great work done by our Branch the raffle had like always had a donation of 3 lovely homemade traditional Christmas Cakes, sizes ranging from 3kg, 2kg along with a smaller one that Betty made for people who live on their own. Her cakes look delicious and are extremely eye catching to the public. Betty is a niece of a past member Melva Anderson. Betty has been kind- heartedly making and donating these cakes for about 10 years. We are very grateful to have these cakes to add to the raffle.

Barbeque

Our Barbeque at Coles finished off in October. Des is constantly pleased with the outcome of each Barbeque. As President I would like to thank Des and Bev for all they do to make the barbeque work so well. The jobs they undertake start with ordering of the food from Coles, the hamburgers at the Butchers and the onions from the fruit and vegetable man. Then making sure we have enough workers to work on the day plus turn up to help on the day. I would like to add a word of thanks to Ed for each month he cuts up the onions and to the men for collecting the Barbeque and cooking items. We will be starting our Barbeque in March yet again this year. The Coles staff will be happy we will be back as they miss us not being there.

Good Friday Tins

In the last few weeks I have been updating our Good Friday tins and jars that we have placed in Bendigo. Now have a grand total of 91. We have picked up 20 new places since September 2010. The general public and our members are getting behind us in this area. We find it’s a good and easy way to keep your Good Friday and Uncle Bobs fundraising building throughout the year.

Home Bank

The home bank numbers are getting smaller as older members pass away. If you are finding at the end of the week you have some loose change left and would be only to happy for the money to go to Uncle Bobs Club, we would only be too happy to give you a Home Bank, as we have some in stock.

VALE

Donald Albert Dewar

8th December 1922 to 24th November 2010

Donald Albert Dewar

Mr Don Dewar passed away peacefully on the 24th November 2010.

Don joined the Bendigo Branch of the Uncle Bobs Club on the 2.9.1988. He was a member for just on 12 months, when happily took on the role as Branch Secretary, which he held for 12 years, from 1989 to 1999. He then went on to be Branch President in 2000. Don did so much for the Branch which is proved by the awards he received. In 1994 Don was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation then in 1996 was given Multi-Purpose Award followed by Life Membership in 2005. 1992 to 1994 he took part on State Committee. Don was also a proud home bank owner.

Don was a very dedicated, enthusiastic, thorough and hardworking member.  Don made sure all paper work and the running of the Branch were done by the book and on time. Nothing was of any bother to him when it came to raising money for the Sick Children of Victoria. Don had great love for kids. One of Don’s other hobbies was to play a part of “KO KO” clown and do magic shows for kids. He also included his clown work in with Uncle Bobs Club. Don was only too happy to get dressed once again as a clown to collect money for the Good Friday Appeal. Then on Easter Monday would partake in the Bendigo Easter Fair displaying the amount raised from Bendigo Branches GFA effort.

Don was what you would call a true Uncle Bob, a happy fun loving gentleman. A good man who will be missed by all who knew him!

Our love to Betty and family
